Effectively responding to conflict is an essential skill for staff and managers alike as mismanaged conflict can easily overshadow everything else at work resulting in decreased productivity, raw relationships, and loss of business.
Each of us has a way of dealing with conflict and we typically employ the same strategy for many different types of conflict situations. If we use limited ways of resolving conflict then our success will be limited as well.
This one day course provides participants with insights into their own conflict management strengths and weaknesses. Each participant will complete a conflict management self assessment. This instrument pinpoints personal conflict management styles, as well as teaches proven strategies for resolving conflict at work.
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
- Use a conflict survey to identify personal strengths and weaknesses.
- Identify different types of conflict at work and select the best strategy to resolve them quickly and quietly.
- Use assertive behavior rather than aggressive or passive behavior.
- Defuse conflict using an easy to follow five step method to gain control and mitigate losses.
- Use body language and active listening to defuse escalating conflict situations.
- Keep your cool and stand your ground while reaching a resolution.
- Resolve conflicts before cross communication turns into roadblocks.
