The guardians of Cayman's heritage and environment.

About us

The National Trust has been protecting the future of Cayman's heritage since its inception in 1987. The Trust is a not-for-profit NGO created to preserve the history and biodiversity of the Cayman Islands. Through education and conservation we work to protect environmentally-sensitive and historically-significant sites across all three Cayman Islands. ENVIRONMENT Our first priority for Cayman's natural environment is the establishment of a system of protected areas. These nature sites are essential for the survival of native plant and animal species. HISTORY Through the preservation of historic sites in the Cayman Islands, we safeguard our unique heritage. EDUCATION Adults and children alike are exposed to Cayman's natural environment and heritage through lectures, historic walking tours, a dedicated student programme, a herbarium and an insectarium. CONSERVATION Scientific field research allows us to study and further our knowledge of Cayman's native and indigenous species and to protect the habitats in which they live.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 15th, from 10 am to 4 pm at the Prospect Playhouse, Tthis innovative fair invites schools from across all islands to participate in a dynamic exploration of climate science and its impact on our beautiful region. • The National Trust for the Cayman Islands is very excited to invite schools across all islands to take part in Cayman’s first ever Climate Fair and competition! Understanding the impact of climate change is becoming more and more important as an Island Nation on the frontlines of the climate crisis, but sometimes good old fashion climate posters don’t quite bring forth the urgency, so we are very excited to host our non-traditional Climate Fair, communicating climate science through traditional science posters, but also the arts! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to get creative while learning about how climate change is affecting our beautiful islands, and a chance for them to win some wonderful prizes for their efforts! We also invite members of the public to come and interact with youth and get their youth perspective on how climate change is impacting them and their futures! It is going to be taking place Saturday, June 15th, 10-4 pm at the Prospect Playhouse, the application to register students is live, click this link https://buff.ly/4bzGFy2 Registration for the event will be closing Friday, May 24th, 2024. • Last night, in celebration of International Blue Iguana Day, the National Trust for the Cayman Islands hosted a free public screening of the documentary “Saving the Blues” with over 100 guests in attendance at Andiamo, The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman. Attendees had the opportunity to listen to a captivating talk by our guest speaker Ian Redmond, OBE, wildlife biologist, and conservationist, renowned for his work with apes and elephants, charismatic large herbivores with many parallels to our Blue Iguanas. A small group of 50 invited guests, who were also able to sample Blue Iguana gin cocktails during the evening, which included Her Excellency Governor Jane Owen, Deputy Premier Andre Ebanks and Minister of Sustainability and Climate Resiliency Katherine Ebanks-Wilks. “Saving the Blues” chronicles the inspiring journey of Fred Burton, a young British Scientist, who dedicated himself to the monumental task of saving the blue iguana, a virtually prehistoric creature endemic to Grand Cayman. The documentary highlights the critical conservation efforts led by Fred Burton, the Department of Environment, and the National Trust for the Cayman Islands, which resulted in the recovery of the blue iguana species from critically endangered to endangered status. Presented by Dr Tasha Ebanks Garcia, Representative to the UK for the Cayman Islands and featuring interviews with Fred Burton, team members from the Blue Iguana Conservation Facility, and global thought leaders, the film underscores the importance of preserving planetary species from a biodiversity perspective.
