Almost 200 people came out to the new Tomlinson Building on the corner of Hospital and Walker’s Roads on Thursday, August 13 to celebrate the Grand Re-Opening and 40th Anniversary of Tomlinson Furniture.
Attendees at the Business After Hours were treated to a coupon for an additional 10% off already marked-down merchandise and entered into a drawing for a complete living room set, bedroom set and dining set which were given away immediately after a joyous ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The new store was open for business and many people took advantage of the discounts which were being offered to Chamber members.
Chrissie and Anthony (Tony) Tomlinson started Tomlinson Furniture in 1975 in the old McDonald building where Fidelity Bank is located currently. Initially it was a one stop home store where customers could purchase appliances as well as furniture and even bicycles and parts. As the business expanded, the Tomlinson's purchased the old Martinez family home at the junction of Walker's and Hospital roads and remodeled it, becoming the home of Tomlinson Furniture until 2013.
When Mr. Tomlinson passed away in 2007, he left the business to his daughter, Jacqui Tomlinson-Smith and in 2009, with her daughter Renee Whorms, who became the store manager, they expanded the product offerings and developed the Mattress Gallery which opened in the old PMC building in 2012. In 2013, the old building was demolished and a new three storey building was built by McAlpine with Jacqui's son, Vaughan Smith, serving as project manager.
Business After Hours is one of the Chamber’s most popular networking and social events for its membership. Business professionals are encouraged to use these events to visit and support local businesses as well as to interact with clients, colleagues and potential customers in an informal setting.
