The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre has received 10 brand new computers, thanks to a generous donation by Conyers Dill & Pearman, one of Cayman’s leading law firms.
The donation is the latest of several that Conyers has made to CICC over the years, both financially and through media sponsorships with DMS Broadcasting.
Ben Hobden of Conyers’ Litigation team reiterated the firm’s ongoing commitment to the Cayman community and Cayman Island Crisis Centre through its charitable giving programme: “As a firm, we feel strongly about making contributions that improve the well-being of those in need in our community. The Cayman Islands Crisis Centre provides a service to those who are or have been affected by domestic violence and we are delighted to be able to contribute to this great cause.”
The 10 new computers will be used to support a range of programmes that the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre offers and will revolutionise the old suite, many of which had been in place since opening in 2003.
The newly launched public facing facility, Estella’s Place, which opened in February and is located on Eastern Avenue at Crown Square, has received 6 computers, 3 of which will be used in the Call Centre, 2 in the Internet Café for TAYA Lounge participants and 1 by the Children & Youth Worker/ Outreach Coordinator.
The TAYA Lounge (pictured above), located in Estella’s Place, provides a safe place for teens and young adults to relax, do homework and feel a part of a community where secrecy, shame and isolation is replaced with a sense of belonging and understanding of their peers. Generation Z, those born since the mid 1990’s, see computers as a necessity and have relied on the internet for both education and relaxation since their early years so the computers complement the facility’s services tremendously.
The shelter has also benefitted from the donation with 2 new computers replacing those used by members of staff and 2 for the shelter’s residents, ensuring that they can stay connected, handle their affairs and plan for their future from the comfort and safety of their temporary home.
Ania Milanowska of Cayman Island Crisis Centre was delighted to receive the donation. ”The launch of Estella’s Place has enabled us to grow the services that we offer considerably. Sadly, we are busier than ever and it is through fantastic donations like these that we are able to keep up with the growing needs within our community.”
