Progressives Make Cayman History

The Progressives made political history in the Cayman Islands today when it nominated six women to contest the general elections due to be held on 24 May 2017.

Lucille Seymour, a former MLA for George Town was nominated for the new electoral district of Prospect.

Daphne Orrett also a former MLA, will contest the new electoral district of West Bay West.

Heather Bodden, a former MLA for Bodden Town is running in Savannah.

Juliana O’Connor Connolly, Speaker of the last session of the Legislative Assembly will contest Cayman Brac East.

Newcomers Barbara Conolly, a financial services manager, is running in George Town South and Maxine Bodden Robinson, a lawyer at a premier Cayman law firm will contest Bodden Town West.

The rest of the Progressives slate in George Town comprises: Premier of the Cayman Islands Hon Alden McLaughlin who will contest in Red Bay; Joseph “Joey” Hew in George Town North; Roy McTaggart in George Town East; Marco Archer in George Town Central; and newcomer David Wight in George Town West.

In Bodden Town Wayne Panton is running in Newlands and Osbourne “Ozzie” Bodden in Bodden Town East.

Deputy Premier Moses Kirkconnell is running in Cayman Brac West/Little Cayman and first-timer Edward “Ed” Chisholm is contesting the North Side seat.

The Hon Alden McLaughlin, leader of the Progressives said: “I am honoured to run with this incredible team and am particularly proud of the fact that we have such a large percentage of strong women as part of our team. We have presented a well-rounded, competent slate of candidates with proven track records in and out of Government, who will continue to build on the foundation we have built during our last term. Together we are CaymanStrong”.
