Elections Supervisor Reports Smooth Nominations Day

Supervisor Wesley HowellThe Supervisor of Elections, Mr. Wesley Howell reports that nominations of candidates on Nominations Day yesterday (Wednesday, 29 March 2017) took place smoothly at all venues in the 19 Electoral Districts in the Cayman Islands.

Thirty eight Elections Office staff members, two at each venue, registered the nominations at 17 venues on Grand Cayman and two for Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, both of which were located on Cayman Brac.

This is the first time that electors in the Cayman Islands will be voting in single member electoral districts, with each voter having only one vote.

“I am pleased at the efficient operations during the whole nominations process today and I thank the Elections Office staff for their diligent preparation and hard work so far,” Mr. Howell commented at the conclusion of the nominations process.

At the close of Nominations Day, a total of 63 candidates had registered as contestants for the 19 electoral seats. George Town South leads the fray with five candidates, followed by the following electoral districts with four candidates each: West Bay South, George Town West, George Town East, Newlands, Bodden Town West, Bodden Town East and North Side.
