The tourism industry is one of the most important industries in the Cayman Islands, contributing greatly to our economy.
It is important for everyone to know how the industry is run, so the Leadership Cayman class set out to learn more for the ‘Stayover and Cruise Tourism’ seminar.
The class started the day with a tour of Owen Roberts International Airport, and later made their way to the Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa for the evening seminar.
On hand to speak more about the industry were expert guest speakers:
• Mrs. Rosa Harris; Director, Cayman Islands Department of Tourism.
• Mr. Albert Anderson; CEO, Cayman Islands Airport Authority.
• Ms. Pilar Bush; EVP Marketing, Dart Real Estate.
“This Leadership Cayman group seems motivated to do more than just learn and discuss, they want to effect change,” said Ms. Bush. “Once they graduate, I expect to see them organise several spin off initiatives to bring practical solutions to complex problems. They are a group to watch!”
Mr. Anderson was also impressed with the group, commenting: “The obvious engagement of every member was outstanding, not just in understanding the airport but how it fits with the whole topic and infrastructure surrounding the topic.”
The Chamber would like to thank all guest speakers for participating in the seminar, as well as class members Gemma Tighe and Omari Corbin for serving as moderators on the day, and Paola Juarez for serving as mentor.
The class will next meet on Wednesday, May 31 for the ‘Infrastructure & the Environment’ seminar.
