This year’s Teen Summit camp (10 to 14 July) has just a few spaces left, according to the Youth Services Unit (YSU).
The week-long camp for 13 to 17-year-olds will bring the Cayman Island’s Coat of Arms to life with a packed schedule of special events, including interactive competitions aimed at fostering civics and celebrating Cayman’s diverse culture. With a fresh approach to youth empowerment, Teen Summit 2017 will explore the islands’ past, present and future.
“The Youth Services Unit wants to see young people active and engaged this summer rather than being at home unattended” said YSU’s Programmes’ Officer Victor Crumbley. “We are inviting parents to sign up their children for the remaining spaces on this low-cost, high-impact camp.”
"I've had so much fun at past Teen Summits. I've made new friends, learned about my culture, and was encouraged to be a teen leader in all activities,” said Tya Bovell a 17-year-old camp regular. “I'm looking forward for this year's camp, because I know it will be fun."
Tya’s enthusiasm for the popular, long-running camp is echoed by Jahru Taylor who attended last year and has also signed up for Teen Summit 2017. "It was fun, especially the water balloon fights and the field trips around the island teaching us about our culture,” he added.
The camp costs $50 and will be located at the University College of the Cayman Islands from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
