Older Persons’ Talent Shines in Variety Show

The Big Stage variety show on Wednesday, 18th October, was the eighth in the 13-event Older Persons Month 2017 calendar. Attendees enjoyed an evening of live performances and entertainment by their peers.

Staged at the Harquail Theatre, performances included skits, songs, and storytelling. Performers included Crosby Walton, Vernice Myles, Twyla Vargas, Daphne Orrett, Rupert Ackerman, Olive Miller, Anita Wheaton, Carmen Connolly, Nadine McLean, Evert Scott and Rosalyn Scott.

Performances by the Cayman Islands Folk Singers also featured on the diverse and packed programme.

The show, hosted by the Department of Children and Family Services in the Ministry of Community Affairs and the Cayman National Cultural Foundation, boasted a large and appreciative cross-generational audience.

Acting Chief Officer Teresa Echenique gave a rousing speech regarding the talents and value of older people. A member of the Cayman Islands Folk Singers, she also performed with the group in a medley of songs.

Following the show, attendees were invited to enjoy light refreshments provided by Hurley’s Supermarket.
