Leadership Cayman Class Learn New Skills at Opening Retreat

LC 2018 Opening Retreat

The 2018 Leadership Cayman class started their personal development in January as they acquired new problem solving skills at an opening retreat held at the Wyndham Reef Resort.

First launched in 2009, Leadership Cayman is a six-month programme that enables participants to acquire an in-depth view of social, economic, business, and political issues; enhance their leadership skills; and to get involved in community projects.

The annual opening retreat gives the class members an opportunity to develop their skills before the series of bi-weekly seminars begins.

The class were joined by Dr. Peter Hammerschmidt, an expert in leadership, problem-solving and teamwork, with three decades of experience.

The class engaged in numerous challenges and team-building exercises during the two-day retreat, and they will use their new skills throughout the programme.

“The opening retreat is a great opportunity for the class members to get a real taste of the work they’ll be doing over the coming months, and to develop their relationships with one another,” said Chamber CEO, Wil Pineau, CCE.

“Dr. Hammerschmidt frequently facilitates these sessions, and his expertise is an effective tool in developing the skills and knowledge of the class members.”

Programme Chair and graduate of the 2014 class, Pamela Small, also attended the opening retreat, assisting Dr. Hammerschmidt with running the numerous exercises and activities.

“They learned a great deal about their leadership styles, as well as how they work within a team environment,” she said.

“Dr. Hammerschmidt did an excellent job with the training and the members were appreciative of what they had learned. It was a fun time that allowed the class members to get to know each other better, which is an important aspect of the programme.”

The class will attend their first seminar of the programme this Wednesday, February 7, where they will be taking a closer look at ‘Media in Our Community.’

The Chamber would like to thank programme partners Cox Lumber Ltd. and RBC Royal Bank (Cayman) Ltd. for supporting Leadership Cayman.
