BE INFORMED Session on 'Consumer Protection Bill' to be Held on Thursday

Paul Byles President (2018)Chamber of Commerce President Paul Byles is urging all businesses to engage in the consultation process for the proposed Consumer Protection and Guarantees bill by attending a BE INFORMED session at the Chamber of Commerce this Thursday, February 22.

The proposed legislation will impact a diverse set of Chamber members ranging from financial services businesses to carpenters, and the deadline for consultation is Thursday, March 1.

"This proposed bill will have a significant impact on businesses in the Cayman Islands, so it is important that all owners and entrepreneurs voice their concerns before it is too late,” said Mr. Byles.

“A key area of consideration for all businesses is to assess if this new legislation will require them to make changes to their existing procedures, and contracts. Such changes can have a significant impact depending on the current approach being taken by the business,” he added

The Chamber is urging businesses to participate in the consultation process because it will be more difficult to ask for changes once the law has already been passed.

Representatives from HSM Chambers will be leading the session, delivering a presentation that examines the proposed bill in greater detail for the membership and wider community.

The Chamber will present the feedback acquired from its members to the law reform commission.
