Yello Media Group Take Top Spot at the Chamber Golf Classic

Yello Win Golf Classic
President Paul Byles (far right) congratualtes the winning team, Yello Media Group. The Yello Media Group team walked away with the top prizes at the Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic on Friday, February 16 at the North Sound Golf Club.

The tournament was rescheduled in November 2017 due to inclement weather at the end of an active hurricane season, but clear skies made for gorgeous weather and a perfect afternoon for golfing.

27 teams battled it out in the four-man scramble over the course of five hours, with title sponsor Kirk Freeport and law firm Harneys earning their way to 3rd and 2nd place respectively. But it was Yello Media Group who were the team to beat, and their fine showing from the tees and on the greens saw them finish in 1st place.

The scramble was not the only competition for the golfers to focus on however, with bragging rights and prizes available for a series of closest-to-the-pin and longest drive challenges. Former Councillor, Gregg Anderson (pictured below) was among the winners, recording the longest drive on hole 12. Emily Ribbins, who joined the Chamber Pension Plan team, also claimed two prizes – having hit closest-to-the-pin on hole one and recording the longest drive on hole 14.

All closest-to-the-pin and longest drive winners were presented with jewellery items (including watches, earrings and bracelets), all donated by title sponsor Kirk Freeport.

“The Golf Classic is one of our favourite Chamber events as it allows a wide range of businesses to network and share some laughs whilst enjoying an afternoon on the golf course,” said Chamber President-elect and Kirk Freeport Vice President, Christopher Kirkconnell.

“We’ve sponsored the tournament for several years and each year we enjoy ourselves even more. And with a record-number of teams taking part this year, it’s clear that the membership loves it too!”

Former Councillor Gregg Anderson won a Tudor Watch for recording the longest drive on hole 12. 750 x

There were also raffle prizes to be won, with a range of businesses donating top-quality prizes for the golfers, including a 3-month membership for Anytime Fitness, a $200 Foster’s IGA gift certificate, a 3 litre bottle of Johnny Walker (courtesy of Jacques Scott), and a two-night staycation for two at the Kimpton Seafire Resort & Spa.

“On behalf of the Council and staff I would like to thank Kirk Freeport for serving as the Golf Classic’ title partner, as well as the many other members who helped make the tournament a success,” said President Paul Byles.

“The tournament is a great networking event and a lot of fun, and I would encourage all of our partners to join us again in November for the 2018 Classic.”

The 2018 Chamber Golf Classic will be held on Friday, November 2 at North Sound Golf Club. If you are interested in taking part in the tournament, please register your interest with the Chamber’s Membership Coordinator Marilyn Whittaker by calling 743-9129 or emailing [email protected].

The Chamber would like to thank the golfers for making the tournament an afternoon to remember, and would like to congratulate Yello Media Group on their victory, and all competition and raffle winners.
