Yello2Green annual community recycling programme launches in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac

Cayman Prep 2016

Yello is proud to share the 2018 launch of our Annual Community Recycling Programme “Yello2Green”. Starting today, Monday, March 5th to Sunday, March 25th, Yello invite the community to participate in one of the most impactful environmental initiatives within the Cayman Islands. An island-wide annual event, Yello2Green is an eco-friendly programme that has saved more than 190,000 directories from the George Town landfill. Over the next three weeks, the Cayman Islands community will come together to collect and recycle old phone books which will then be converted into reusable material.

The community goals of the Yello2Green recycling programme are three fold:

• Lead the community to increase environmental awareness and protection.

• Educate children on the importance, benefits and responsibilities of recycling to both their community and the environment.

• Reduce waste in our landfill, as every community member makes a difference.

The programme includes the Yello2Green School Challenge, in which primary schools may compete in a friendly challenge to win prizes. The school that collects the most directories, per student body, wins! Prizes include $1,500 for 1st Place, $1000 for 2nd Place and $700 for 3rd Place. In addition, each participating primary school will reward the class that collects the most directories with a celebratory Subway sandwich party. In addition, the student to collect the most directories at each school, will win a $100 gift certificate for school supplies.

Currently, there are eleven primary schools participating in Grand Cayman and three schools in Cayman Brac.

• Grand Cayman: Cayman Academy, Cayman International School, Cayman Prep, First Baptist Christian School, George Town Primary School, Edna M. Moyle Primary School, John A. Cumber Primary School, Prospect Primary School, Red Bay Primary School, Triple C School and St. Ignatius Catholic School.

• Cayman Brac: Creek & Spot Bay Primary School, Layman E. Scott Senior High School and West End Primary School

Yello also welcome the entire community to join us in this important green effort. Yello2Green recycling containers are now located in convenient locations throughout Grand Cayman.

• Foster’s IGA four locations: Airport, Strand, Republix and Countryside

• Hurley’s Supermarket

• Yello Office

At the end of the programme, the directories will be sent by Tropical Shipping to Green Fiber, a manufacture that creates reusable materials. The phone books will be converted into a material that will be used for home insulation that aids in energy efficiency. Yello wish to thank and recognise their community partners: Foster’s IGA, Hurley’s Supermarket, Tropical Shipping, Lemmie’s Trucking and HOT 104.1 and X107.
