NRA upgrades fleet

The National Roads Authority (NRA) has made significant upgrades to its fleet with the acquisition of 34 new vehicles and pieces of equipment.

Vehicles over eight years old or with over 100,000 miles, and heavy equipment over 12-years-old were approved for replacement by the NRA Board.

“The older units we were working with were too expensive to maintain and had a poor reliability record,” comments Colford Scott, NRA Fleet Manager. “The new purchases mean we are in a state of readiness to undertake special projects and provide more efficient maintenance of the roads,” Mr. Scott adds.

The following items were purchased for a total cost of under $2.3 million:

• Tractors, mowers and brush cutters (7 units)

• Rollers (3 units)

• Pickup trucks, panel vans, and compact utility vehicles (4 units)

• Excavator (1 unit)

• Grader (1 unit)

• Dump trucks (5 units)

• Vacuum truck (1 unit)

• Loaders and backhoes (4 units)

• Mechanical service truck (1 unit)

• Street sweeper (1 unit)

• Compressors (2 units)

• Sign boards (3 units)

• Trailer (1 unit)

To ensure best management of assets the funds outlined for the purchase were protected and used only for that purpose. As a result the NRA was able to upgrade its fleet without seeking funds from central Government. Additionally the procurement of the new items was approved by the Central Tenders Committee.

Older units were sold through auction, for a total of $234,644. This was used in the purchase of the new vehicles and equipment.
