Cayman celebrates the Queen's Birthday

The Cayman Islands celebrated Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 92nd birthday today (Saturday, 9 June).

Senior government officials gathered with other dignitaries and members of the public to observe the ceremony, held in front of the Legislative Assembly building in George Town.

The programme included the traditional parade by uniformed services, a royal salute, 21 gun-salute and three cheers for the Queen.

His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Anwar Choudhury recognised past and current recipients of Queen’s Honours.

Mrs. Olive Miller was the sole Officer of the British Empire (OBE) recipient. She is recognised for her life long commitment to community services, including founding the Girls Brigade, helping to open the Cayman Islands High School and Pines Retirement Home, developing the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), and serving as government’s first Information Officer.

It was announced that the Deputy Governor Hon. Franz Manderson, will be the newest recipient of the Member of the British Empire (MBE), for his services to the Cayman Islands.

Additionally, three young people were presented with the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award; Kimberly Carlos, Daniel Reid, and Lauren Williams.

Parade contingents included the Royal Cayman Islands Police Band, and detachments from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, the Cayman Islands Fire Service, HM Prison Service, the Veterans, Girls Brigade, Scouts and the Cadet Corps.
