Firearms Amnesty update: 9 weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition handed over

Over the first two weeks of the RCIPS Firearms Amnesty, 1-15 June, 2 handguns and 7 rifles have been handed over to police, along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition. The RCIPS thanks members of the public for helping make the community safer during these first two weeks, and encourages others to follow this example.

“Although the amnesty remains in effect for the next two weeks, our proactive efforts to locate and recover illegal firearms are ongoing,” said Deputy Commissioner Kurt

Walton. “It is better to take advantage of this amnesty as soon as possible, than to have the police show up at your door to conduct a search.”

Two arrests were made yesterday, 14 June, during an operation where an unlicensed firearm and ammunition were recovered. Both persons remain in custody.

Detailed information on how to surrender a firearm during the amnesty is on the RCIPS website at Firearms Amnesty.
