For the last quarter of this year, older men and women of the Cayman Islands will again enjoy the benefits derived from having Chamber of Commerce Discount Cards.

Chamber discount cards are distributed annually, making it the largest consumer discount programme in the Cayman Islands. They allow access to about 90 Chamber member businesses who participate, offering users savings in areas ranging from food, automotive and household goods, to health, entertainment and clothing.

The popular cards were presented on Wednesday, 19 September, 2018 by Chamber CEO Wil Pineau, CCE to Older Person Month organisers and a group of well-deserving citizens.

The cards were accepted at the Chamber offices by an Older Persons Month Ambassador Alex Johnson, along with a bevy of ladies: Reba Manderson, Lucil Williams, Betty Ebanks and Alice Jackson.

This observance is held each October, celebrating the contributions and value of residents 60 years and over. The 2018 theme is “Respecting the Wisdom of Older Persons”.

Mr. Pineau expressed his pleasure at the participation of local merchants, noting, “This corporate citizenship initiative is well-suited to this most deserving segment of our population. On behalf of our Chamber members, I wish the Discount Card recipients an enjoyable and rewarding Older Persons Month, and happy shopping!”

He added that there are other special considerations being considered for older residents, including legal services, and an expansion of wider discounts for those in this age group.

The agenda for the month includes an evening walk, social outings, media appearances and a gala dinner. Activities are planned on all three Cayman Islands.

Mrs. Cassandra Fearon, representing the new Elderly Services Team within the Department of Children and Family Services, expressed gratitude to the Chamber of Commerce membership for the complimentary Discount Card: “This initiative is in keeping with our national Older Persons Policy, and will help offset their cost-of-living expenses.”

Older persons Month begins on Sunday, 30 September, 2018, with an opening service at Elmslie United Church in George Town. The following day is observed as International Day of Older Persons.
