Leading global offshore law and governance services firm, Mourant, has once again swapped office chairs for charity work during its annual Away Day.
More than 60 Mourant people volunteered their time to three deserving charities, with teams assisting Literacy is for Everyone (LIFE), the National Trust, the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO); and a group of volunteers tackling beach clean-ups at two of the islands iconic beaches, Smith Barcadere (Smith's Cove) and Governor's Beach.
The LIFE volunteers assisted by reading to children at Edna Moyle Primary School and Bodden Town Primary School as well as cleaning and preparing over 350 books which will be donated either to School Libraries, for schools that have libraries and librarians, or directly into classrooms such that children can have access to books on a daily basis.
The group at the NCVO sanded and repainted the front door, sanded the bannister in preparation for painting and creating eight inspirational paintings for the residences. The National Trust volunteers split into two groups, with a smaller team heading to their storage facility to help clean and organize the space and a group giving the Kids Clubhouse a fresh coat of paint.

Giving time and sweat equity is important to connect people with our mission of improving literacy levels in our community. The Eastern districts are often overlooked in community service activities as it is difficult to get volunteers to travel to these schools. LIFE encourages community service where it supports student learning and doesn’t disrupt teaching time as these students love to have visitors share the joy of reading a good story!”
