CE2015-students

The Career, Education & Training Expo 2015 held on Friday, March 13 was a superb line up of some of the most respected local businesses, educational institutions and government departments. Each booth at the UCCI Sir Vassel Johnson Hall was full of information on the particular business/organisation as well as available jobs, scholarship information and training and internship opportunities.

The event was opened on Friday morning by Honourable Minister Tara Rivers and Chamber President Barry Bodden. Mr. Bodden commended the 37 sponsors/exhibitors of the Expo for investing their resources and time so that school leavers and students can learn about the multitude of education, training, career and employment opportunities that are available for Caymanians and legal residents. Mr. Bodden also went on to state that the Chamber “recognises that we must address the issue of youth unemployment particularly for persons under the age of 25. This issue is a national priority and we must work together to develop initiatives that will help these individuals obtain the skills required to become productive contributors in the workforce.”

Almost 750 students attended the Expo Friday. This year, in addition to students from grades 9 – 12, the Event was open to grade 6 attendees. A special mention should be made to the exceptionally well-behaved Savannah Primary School participants, who came with notebooks and ready to learn!

Major Sponsors of the event were Butterfield Bank (Cayman) Ltd, Cayman Finance, Conyers Dill & Pearman, Health Services Authority, Maples and Calder, National Workforce Development Agency, Pinnacle Media and Walkers.

Cayman Enterprise City was the Reception Sponsor and A.I. Rentals was the Production Sponsor for the Event.

Supporting sponsors included Affinity Recruitment Ltd., Caribbean Utilities Company Ltd., Cayman Islands Insurance Association, Cayman Islands Marketing Professionals Association, Church Teachers’ College, Mandeville, CML Offshore Recruitment, Dart, Deloitte, Department of Environmental Health, Department of Tourism, Health City Cayman Islands, Insurance Managers Association of Cayman, International College of the Cayman Islands, Island Companies, Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands, Marriott Resort Grand Cayman, National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, Personnel 2000, Poinciana Festival, PwC, SteppingStones Recruitment & Training, The Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman, The Wellness Centre, University College of the Cayman Islands, University of Tampa and Water Authority Cayman Islands.

All exhibitors had a wealth of information on entering their particular business or industry. There were also plenty of giveaways for attendees including bags, pens, water bottles and key chains. The booths were manned by employees of each business/organisation and the Chamber received many compliments on how well presented and informative each exhibitor was.
