The recently elected Council has been active since their election in late January.

The Council and Staff have participated in a two-day strategic planning session in East End for the years 2016-2018.

Two meetings have been held with the elected Government to discuss various community and business issues. Quarterly meetings have been scheduled to keep the channels of communication open. In addition, a lunch meeting is scheduled next week with Her Excellency the Governor.

A meeting was held this week with a representative from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service to discuss ways to work together to address the crime issues facing our community. Regular meetings will now take place.

A Family Fun Day at Public Beach is being planned following the annual Earth Day Roadside Cleanup on Saturday, 16th April. Special thanks to Red Sail Sports for agreeing to donate watersports activities at the event.

The Council is also establishing dialogue with industry associations including Cayman Finance, Cayman Islands Law Society, the Cayman Contractors Association and the Cayman Islands Small Business Association to address issues of mutual interest. We continue to work to secure resources and funding for small business development in our community through the European Union-funded COSME initiative.

To keep members informed, special BE INFORMED sessions are being arranged in the weeks ahead. The Chamber will be participating in a special meeting on Thursday, 31st March at the Town Hall in George Town to discuss the new Trade and Business Licensing Law which was recently introduced.

Participants in the Leadership Cayman and Mentoring Cayman initiatives are enjoying their experiences.

The Professional Development and Training Centre has expanded its offerings and have introduced Legal Masterclasses and expanded the offerings for Ken Blanchard courses.

President Paul Pearson is serving on the Ready2Work committee, along with Woody Foster from Foster’s Food Fair, to develop a programme that addresses employment challenges facing some Caymanians and residents.

The Chamber responded to a request for input to the Dangerous Substances regulations and have attended meetings to discuss additions that are being introduced to national surveys that will be released shortly by the Economics and Statistics Unit.

The Chamber is also represented on the Project Future Steering Committee which has been meeting regularly to move ahead with the 56 recommendations from the E&Y Project Future Report that reviewed public services.

In the weeks ahead we will be seeking your involvement on a series of committees and task forces that address specific areas that have been identified in the Chamber’s three year Strategic Plan. Get involved. You will be happy you did.

Contact me at 743-9122 or any member of the Council or Staff if you have any questions and remember to complete the issues prioritization survey so the Council understands the areas that most concern you.
