Our beautiful Islands in the Caribbean became even more so on Saturday April 16th, as the Chamber of Commerce’s Earth Day clean-up saw over 1,500 participants clearing up the litter and debris strewn along our beaches and roads. From beer bottles to syringes, we not only made our Islands a cleaner and more visually pleasing place to live, but we also made it healthier and safer for the members of our community.
We received some fantastic photos of our volunteer and sponsor teams in their limited edition Deutsche Bank t-shirts, and the Fountainhead slogan and logo design, as well as the eye-catching green colour, made for a wonderfully striking and powerful image that perfectly suited the socio-cultural message of the day. Our volunteer teams also approached the task in a sensible manner, using their Britcay caps to protect themselves from the sun, as well as making use of their Davenport water bottles to keep hydrated.
Some of you also looked great with your vibrant, efficient, reusable tote bags courtesy of Cayman National, Ogier, RBC, and Walkers. We can’t wait to see more of you showing them off next time you do your weekly shop.
Once the clean-up was finished it was time to hit the beach! Down at Public Beach, we were glad to see a lot of you satisfy the appetites you had worked up all morning with a delicious brunch sponsored by Flow with the assistance of Foster’s Food Fair, Tortuga and CEL/Pepsi. But that wasn’t all that happened on the golden sand. Red Sail Sports got your hearts racing with some adrenaline pumping water sports, whilst there were a variety of games and entertainment supplied by Magical Events set up for the children in attendance, including the likes of face-painting.
The Department for Environmental Health no doubt had a lot of work to do on Monday collecting all the garbage bags left by the sides of the road, and we offer them a massive thanks for doing so. We also want to offer a massive thanks to all of our sponsors for Earth Day 2016, whose financial backing enabled us to run the event; and to all of our volunteer teams, whose phenomenal hard work and efforts made this year’s clean-up a resounding success.
We are planning another clean-up event for the Islands towards the Christmas period at the end of this year, and a date will soon be confirmed. So, if you’re interested in making our beaches and road look ‘merry and bright’ for the holidays, please let us know so we can get you signed up!
