Event Description:

This course will provide participants with an introduction to and overview of managing disputes at work by using an interest-based problem solving model. The information provided will help with managing both conflicts in which the participants are a party and conflicts between individuals they manage.

In introducing the interest-based problem solving model, particular focus will be placed on identifying ‘negative conflict’, understanding participants’ individual conflict management styles and providing participants with tools to successfully manage interpersonal disputes that arise through their daily activities.

Targeted Audience - The one day course is intended for anyone who is in a position to help manage conflict in the workplace including but not limited to:

  • Front-line and departmental managers
  • Team leaders and team facilitators
  • HR professionals
  • Supervisors

Event Outcomes - By the end of the course, participants will be better able to:

  • Distinguish between the negative and positive aspects of conflict.
  • Identify and evaluate several different responses to conflict.
  • Understand the differences between interest-based and positional conflict management.
  • By using the interest-based problem solving model, improve on their own response to conflict and help colleagues handle conflict more effectively.
