SPEAK UP TO MOVE UP is a two-day course designed to help people improve their skills in speaking before a group or on a one to one basis. It is designed to quickly increase the comfort level and confidence of participants in a variety of speaking situations.
STRUCTURE AND CONTENT OF A TALK
- Review the basic structure of a talk that includes, an opening that catches the listener’s attention, content that creates a visual impact and a final restatement of your key points.
- Gain an understanding of the different impacts that you can create from a single topic.
- Learn when and how to use pitch, pace, projection and pauses during your talk
- Learn how to generate enthusiasm when you speak.
- Learn the magic of visual stories, inspirational quotes and real life experiences to enliven your talk.
- Learn if you should use humour and when it is appropriate.
PRACTICE SESSIONS IN MAKING PRESENTATIONS
- Practice your ability to communicate in group meetings
- Practice being persuasive.
- Participate in a discussion where you convince others of your point of view.
- Participate in sessions to test your ability to think on your feet
- Present a longer talk on a topic of your choice
- Learn how to introduce a speaker.

INSTRUCTOR
Terry Carson, CA, CMA is an audit partner in the firm of Grant Thornton in Grand Cayman and has been a Senior Financial Officer in various businesses for the past 19 years. He has been presented with many awards in both public speaking and finance and has provided training throughout Canada and the Caribbean.
