Event Description:

This two day course is designed to give a basic understanding of financial statements in an easy to follow and interesting format. Whether you own a business or work in an office environment, this course will give you a better understanding of the factors that drive the profits and financial stability of a company.

This course is for: support staff, managers who would like a better understanding of financial statements, business owners, anyone who is responsible for budget or accounting information, or anyone planning to invest in public companies.

PROGRAM CONTENT

STRUCTURE AND CONTENT OF CORPORATE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS

  • Learn the difference in financial statement categories, such as assets, liabilities, equity, revenue and expense.
  • Understand the importance of the auditor’s report, materiality, and internal control in evaluating the financial statements.
  • Review the 10 major assumptions supporting the preparation of financial statements.
  • Learn the purpose of each financial statement and what to look for when reading the notes to the financial statements.
  • Review a selection of public company reports.
  • Review the three main sources of systematic entries.
  • Learn how entries build top produce financial statements.

LEARN HOW TO USE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS TO EVALUATE A COMPANY

  • Learn to apply key ratios and trend analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses in a company’s performance.
  • Apply break-even analysis to understand the impact of fixed and variable costs on a company’s profitability.
  • Participate in problem solving exercises to help you understand financial statements.
  • Analyze the data presented for a sample company and then attend a mock shareholders’ meeting to question the President on the financial statements.
