Event Description:

Management style and climate are two key “enablers” in Performance Management and your management style has a direct impact on work climate, which in turn has a direct impact on people’s level of performance.

By improving your management style(s) you improve the productivity of your work team. Managing performance is often regarded as “it’s time now for your annual appraisal” or “ we need to meet to look at how you have done this year”. Both scenarios are wrong.

Whilst poor staff performance is one of employers’ most common complaints, managers faced with difficult conversations about work standards and potentially litigious staff often avoid dealing with it or don’t handle it very well. Ignoring the issue can demotivate other staff and so tackling poor performance must be done firmly. It is also vital to manage all employees well so that they are fully engaged and have the knowledge that they are valued and respected. As most employees are hard working, capable people their motivation must be maintained and they need to know that their contribution matters.

This two day workshop is for those who are responsible for other employees and particularly those who review performance. It will look in some depth at the issues of performance, involving practical exercises and the review of systems. It will concentrate on learning and managerial styles.

Topics will include:

  • Learning styles
  • Managerial styles
  • Organization climate
  • Coaching skills
  • Assessment and feedback
  • Contracting for change
  • Planning for change
  • Influencing skills and strategies

At the end of the workshop delegates will be able to:

  • Understand their own managerial style in greater detail
  • Identify the potential impact of their managerial style on other people
  • Identify their own strengths as a coach and use a coaching model to make the most of their strengths when coaching and developing their staff
