Representatives from the Data Protection Working Group will deliver a presentation at the next BE INFORMED presentation on Wednesday, 26th September from 3 -5p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Centre conference room in Governors Square.

The draft Bill seeks to introduce for the first time in the Cayman Islands legislation on data protection. Data protection is aimed principally at giving effect to the rights to privacy in relation to data while ensuring that certain exceptions are allowed. In preparing the draft Bill, consideration has been given to the provision in the Constitution relating to privacy, in particular, relating to private and family life. The draft Bill has been developed in line with international best practices but a conscious effort has been made to ensure that it reflects the specific needs of the Cayman Islands.

The Chamber Council will be reviewing the draft Bill and is inviting comment from any member who wish to share their views on the Bill.
