CTMH doctor participates in prestigious publication study

Dr. SlutskyCTMH Doctors Hospital is honored to share with the Cayman communities that their very own Dr. Joel Slutsky – in house urologist has co-authored and surgically participated in a new study that focused on a ‘Treatment with an adjustable long-term implant for post-prostatectomy stress incontinence: The ProACTTM pivotal trial’. This prestigious publication in ‘Neurourology and Urodynamics’ presents 18-month follow-up results for patients enrolled in a pivotal study conducted to support an FDA premarket approval application. This trial evaluated the safety and efficacy of the ProACT TM Adjustable Continence Therapy for the treatment of post-prostatectomy stress urinary incontinence (SUI). A total of 123 subjects underwent ProACT implantation from July 2005 through June 2007, of whom 98 completed the 18-month follow up.

The average surgical time was 32 minutes resulting the demonstration of the safety and efficacy of this newly FDA-approved therapy, showing significant improvement in objective and subjective measures of SUI in mild, moderate, and severely incontinent male patients. The duration of the implant procedure is short, and complications are mild and easily resolvable. Statistically significant improvements during the follow-up sessions were observed in 24-h pad weight, for which the average pre-implant urine loss was 399g, which was reduced at 18 months to 160g.

These Urodynamics have been published in the Wiley Online Library which hosts one of the world’s most extensive multidisciplinary collections of online resources covering life, health and physical sciences. The Wiley Network focuses on three major components – Develop – Educate – Discover.

CTMH Doctors Hospital is very proud of the success in advancing the world of urological medical treatments and the active role that their very own Dr. Joel Slutsky engaged in to make this study possible.
