Celebrate Cayman launched a yearlong celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Cayman Islands constitution at a very special event Saturday morning (29 June 2019). Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Overseas Territories Minister Lord Ahmad was among those who joined elected leaders and senior officials at a cultural breakfast to celebrate the Cayman Islands’ special relationship with Jamaica and the United Kingdom. Invited guests include heads of Governments from the British Overseas Territories, representatives from Jamaica and the Jamaican Diaspora in the Cayman Islands, members of the clergy, and the Constitutional Commission. The 1959 Legislative Assembly of Justices and Vestry, which enacted the first Constitution, was represented by family members. Other festivities planned this weekend include a football match on Saturday evening, a church service on Sunday morning, followed by a special event commemorating George Town Town Hall as the site of the signing of the constitution, and a panel discussion on Radio Cayman next Thursday, 4 July.
