Cayman Chamber joins ICC Climate Coalition

The Cayman Chamber recently joined the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Climate Coalition. More than 500 Chambers around the world have committed to taking actions to advocate and support measures to support climate solutions. Chamber leaders in the coalition agree to:

Advocate for climate action within our business networks and for well-conceived policies to limit the global average temperature rise to 1.5 C.

Support the goal of achieving net-zero emissions globally by 2050.

Mainstream climate mitigation and resilience guidance into chamber services.

Work with public and private entities to support effective climate solutions as part of a transformational change that works for people and planet.

Reduce the greenhouse footprint from chamber activities without delay.

Joining the ICC Climate Coalition broadens the Cayman Chamber’s long-standing commitment to the environment. In 1997, the Chamber joined the International Earth Day movement and organised the Islands first roadside and beach cleanup to celebrate Earth Day.

This cleanup has become the largest annual volunteer cleanup, collectively removing thousands of bags of litter each year on land and from the sea. In 2000, the Chamber introduced the 200 by 2000 Pitch In- Keep it Clean campaign and encouraged members to purchase trash receptacles to place at their businesses.

By the end of the campaign, more than 190 receptacles were purchased and placed throughout Grand Cayman. In 2007, the Chamber introduced the Islands’ first Environmental Pledge and urged businesses, government, schools, students and residents to commit to take practical actions to reduce their environmental footprint. Businesses, residents, students and schools continue to sign the pledge.
