Chamber commissions white paper on economic sustainability

FTS has been commissioned by the Chamber Council to produce a white paper on economic sustainability in the Cayman Islands. The white paper will examine the extent of economic growth in the Cayman Islands over the past two decades, the sustainability of that growth and the measures which may be required to maintain and improve sustainable growth in the medium to long term.

In addition to examining broader GDP growth, the study will also look specifically at growth in tourism and financial services. This examination will be carried out in conjunction with interviews with key stakeholders in the sectors.

The study will also include a high level examination of the broader issue of sustainability of economic growth by focusing specifically in five key areas: population growth, income inequality, environmental challenges, human capital development and transportation/traffic congestion.

The white paper will refer to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainability Development and will include recommendations on key action steps that the Islands should consider to maintain or improve broader economic sustainability over the medium to long term.

Preliminary findings of the white paper will be presented at the Chamber's Economic Forum scheduled for Friday, 22nd May at the Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa.
