Public warned about account impersonating Minister

The public is advised to remain alert and vigilant to individuals attempting to take advantage of uncertainty during the current coronavirus situation.

Reports have emerged of a fake account claiming to be from Minister O’Connor Connolly approaching members of the public about a cash grant from the department of health and human services. The account goes on to offer the individual a link to apply.

The information contained in the message is incorrect and poses a potential risk to individuals who go on to click the link.

The public are reminded to look to official sources for information on government financial support. For information about government support offered to individuals facing financial difficulty due to coronavirus, please visit www.gov.ky/coronavirus.

It is a crime to produce and share disinformation in the Cayman Islands. The matter has been shared with the Chief Information Security Officer for the Cayman Islands Government and RCIPS for investigation.
