At the Chamber, we believe that developing Cayman’s youth to become the next generation of business and community leaders is central to the continued success of the islands. In furtherance of this mission, the Chamber, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture, and Lands, is about to launch Mentoring Cayman 2020-2021, the nineteenth year of the programme. We are seeking 50 mentors from the local community who are willing to give of themselves and their time to help guide 50 top-achieving high school students in their chosen career field.

The Mentoring Cayman programme is an excellent channel through which successful professionals, business and other career individuals can play a role in helping to advance the Caymanian society. The students who participate in this programme have demonstrated to the ability to become Cayman’s next generation of leaders and Mentoring Cayman is seeking individuals with the passion to help these students maximize their potential.

If mentoring a student sounds like something you would like to do, then contact the Chamber of Commerce at [email protected] to get more information about how you can join the programme.

The 2019-2020 Mentoring Cayman programme was meant to run from October 2019 to June 2020, but the programme year came to a pre-mature end in March 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The programme started with the training of mentors in October 2019 and the opening reception in early November. Mentors, students and parents interacted for the first time at the opening reception. After this initial meeting, three workplace visits took place between mentees and mentors. The final official meeting between mentors and mentees was the Guest Speaker’s Luncheon, held at The Wharf Restaurant on March 3. Those in attendance were inspired by the guest speaker, 2018 YCLA recipient Samuel Young Jr,. who spoke on the value of mentorship.

Although this year’s programme has been cut short, we encourage mentees and mentors to continue building their relationships. All participants will receive a certificate of appreciation.

The Chamber would like to thank the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture, and Lands for their continued partnership with the programme.

We would also like to thank each school that participated in the programme – John Gray High School, Clifton Hunter High School, Cayman Prep and High School, St. Ignatius Catholic School, Triple C School, Grace Christian Academy, and Wesleyan Christian Academy.

Specials thanks to our sponsors – Cayman Water, Cox Lumber Ltd., Knighthead Annuity & Life Assurance Company and Rocky Diamond Gallery, for their continued support of the programme.
