COVID-19 Patient Passes

The Ministry of Health confirms the passing of a patient with COVID-19 complications, who had been admitted to the Cayman Islands Hospital since 4 October 2020.

The patient who passed away on Sunday, 15 November 2020, was a resident of the Cayman Islands, who tested positive after arriving back in the Islands from travel abroad. Following the positive test, the patient at first remained in isolation and moved to the Cayman Islands Hospital after their symptoms worsened.

The Ministry notes that the patient falls into the category of persons considered to be at high risk of complications from COVID-19.

This is the second person to die of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands. The first was a tourist from a cruise ship who was admitted to a local hospital to receive urgent treatment for an unrelated health condition.

The Ministry and Health Services Authority extend their deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.

Urging members of the public to continue to practice COVID-19 preventive measures such as handwashing and social distancing, Minister of Health, Hon. Dwayne Seymour, observed that the Cayman Islands remained very fortunate to have had no recent reported cases of community transmission.

This was, Mr Seymour said, in great part due to the community’s compliance with the precautionary measures required and recommended by Government.
