Be Informed Session Clarifies the Ready2Work Programme

Dr. Tasha Ebanks-Garcia spent just over one-and-a-half hours explaining the Ready2Work programme to attendees at the Chamber of Commerce’s BE INFORMED session on Wednesday 25th May.

The Chamber conference room was busy with local business owners and representatives wishing to learn more about the initiative, which is helmed by the Ministry of Education, Employment & Gender Affairs.

The session was opened by Chamber President Paul Pearson, and Minister Tara Rivers, both of whom delivered brief opening remarks.

Dr. Ebanks-Garcia followed Minister Rivers with an on-screen presentation, guiding the audience through the basics of the programme. As she explained, the programme consists of 4 phases and is designed to provide unemployed prospects with (initially) short-term employment.

Dr. Ebanks-Garcia responded to an audience member’s question by clarifying that the initiative is NOT an internship, but is an official labouring position; i.e. minimum wage and health insurance both apply.

The question-and-answer session delved further into the programme and its terms-and-conditions, with Dr. Ebanks-Garcia providing insightful and comprehensive answers.

For those interested in joining the programme, please send a copy of the expression of interest form to the Ministry of Education, Employment & Gender Affairs.

For further information, please contact the Ministry directly.
